The ZRACSD is Zambia’s primary agency for enforcing customs and trade laws. It has made notable progress in combating counterfeit goods and transnational crime. The division has introduced several transparency initiatives like the Zambia Customs Tariff Handbook and an online portal for submitting customs declarations. The adoption of the WCO’s Data Model has facilitated data exchange, ensuring more accurate and timely customs information. Additionally, the ZRACSD has enhanced international cooperation, signing agreements with neighboring countries and participating in regional workshops to tackle counterfeiting.
The 2022 Customs and Excise (Amendment) Act empowered the ZRACSD with advanced tools to detect and prevent smuggling. Sustainability efforts, including a paperless clearance system and energy-efficient facilities, have reduced the environmental impact. A single window system has been introduced to streamline trade facilitation and reduce clearance times. ZRACSD’s capacity-building initiatives have improved customs enforcement skills, further enhancing international cooperation and transparency.
