Sri Lanka Customs has played a pivotal role in combating counterfeit goods and transnational crime, taking the lead in enforcing customs and tax laws. The agency has introduced transparency initiatives such as an online portal for customs declarations, improving efficiency and accountability in the clearance process. In 2022, Sri Lanka Customs launched a public awareness campaign to educate the public on counterfeit goods, utilizing radio, TV, and social media to reach a wider audience. The agency also strengthened international cooperation by signing memorandums of understanding with neighboring countries like India and participating in regional workshops organized by the World Customs Organization (WCO).

In 2022, Sri Lanka enacted the Customs (Amendment) Act, granting stronger powers to Sri Lanka Customs to combat counterfeit and transnational crimes, alongside advancements in technology for detecting smuggling. The agency has also adopted sustainable initiatives, such as a paperless clearance system and the installation of solar panels at its facilities to reduce its carbon footprint. With its blockchain-based system for tracking goods, Sri Lanka Customs continues to streamline trade and fight counterfeit goods, seizing thousands of counterfeit items in recent years.
