The Mozambique Customs Administration (MCA) plays a pivotal role in combating counterfeit goods and transnational crime. As the primary agency enforcing customs and trade laws in Mozambique, the MCA has implemented numerous initiatives aimed at improving transparency, strengthening international cooperation, and promoting sustainable development. These measures include the publication of the Mozambique Customs Tariff Handbook and the launch of an online portal for customs declarations, enhancing the efficiency and transparency of the customs process.
Internationally, the MCA has strengthened ties with neighboring countries and international organizations, such as the World Customs Organization (WCO), to share intelligence and combat cross-border crime. In 2022, the Mozambican government enacted the Customs and Excise (Amendment) Act, which empowered the MCA with enhanced legal tools and penalties to fight counterfeit and transnational crimes.
Sustainability is also a priority, with initiatives like a paperless clearance system and energy-efficient infrastructure to reduce the environmental impact. In addition, the MCA has introduced a green customs initiative and a code of conduct for customs officials, emphasizing social responsibility.
The MCA continues to enhance trade facilitation with innovations such as a single window system for submitting all trade documents through an online portal, streamlining clearance processes and improving the efficiency of customs operations.
