The Mauritanian Customs Administration (MCA) is at the forefront of combating counterfeit goods and transnational crime. As the central body for enforcing customs laws in Mauritania, MCA has made significant strides in promoting transparency, international cooperation, and sustainable development. Through initiatives like the publication of the Mauritanian Customs Tariff Handbook and the introduction of an online portal for customs declarations, MCA has streamlined the clearance process and built trust with stakeholders. Additionally, the MCA adopted the World Customs Organization’s Data Model, improving data accuracy and facilitating international information sharing.
MCA has also fostered international cooperation by signing agreements with neighboring countries, such as Morocco, to combat cross-border crime. Legal reforms like the Customs and Excise (Amendment) Act have strengthened the MCA’s ability to combat smuggling and counterfeit goods. In line with sustainable development, MCA has implemented paperless clearance systems and energy-efficient initiatives at its facilities. These efforts are complemented by social responsibility programs and a green customs initiative to minimize the environmental impact of customs operations.
