The Central African Republic Customs Administration (CARCA) is tackling significant hurdles to enforce trade laws and combat cross-border crime. Additionally, corruption and transparency issues have eroded stakeholder trust, as highlighted by the World Customs Organization (WCO).
Despite these challenges, CARCA has implemented transformative initiatives, including a streamlined customs tariff system and a customs hotline for reporting irregularities, boosting efficiency and trust. International cooperation has also strengthened, with agreements like the memorandum with the Democratic Republic of Congo to share intelligence on cross-border crime. Furthermore, CARCA’s capacity-building efforts, including risk management training, and public awareness campaigns on counterfeit dangers, underscore its commitment to improvement. By addressing systemic issues and leveraging global partnerships, CARCA is paving the way for better trade facilitation and enforcement in the Central African Republic.
