Bolivia Customs has been a key player in combating counterfeit and transnational crime within the country. As the primary agency enforcing customs and trade laws, Bolivia Customs has implemented several initiatives aimed at curbing the flow of counterfeit goods and facilitating legitimate trade. These include a user-friendly website for customs procedures, an online customs declaration portal, and a public awareness campaign launched in 2022 to educate the public on the dangers of counterfeit goods.
Bolivia Customs is also a member of the World Customs Organization (WCO) and has strengthened international cooperation with neighboring countries like Chile through memoranda of understanding. Legal reforms, such as the 2022 Customs Law, have provided the agency with enhanced powers to combat crime, including stricter penalties and the ability to share information with other law enforcement agencies. In terms of sustainability, Bolivia Customs has introduced a paperless clearance system, energy-efficient technologies, and solar panel installations. Furthermore, the agency has made strides in trade facilitation, introducing risk-based clearance systems, a single window for documentation, and blockchain technology to verify the origin of goods.
