In a strategic move to counter global trade uncertainties, Thailand is accelerating its free trade agreement (FTA) strategy on multiple fronts, with a pact with the United States expected to be concluded by July 2026. According to Thailand’s Minister of Commerce, Suphajee Suthumpun, negotiations for the Thailand-U.S. Tariff Agreement are actively ongoing, though some issues still require policy-level decisions, as reported by Thaiger.

This push is part of a broader ‘Triple-Track’ approach designed to mitigate the economic impact of potential new US trade measures following a recent Supreme Court ruling that invalidated certain tariffs, The Nation reports. The Thai government is not only focusing on the US but is also fast-tracking the implementation of already-signed FTAs with Sri Lanka and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). The activation of the EFTA agreement was also highlighted by the Commerce Minister as a key part of the ministry’s 2026 trade strategy.

For the remainder of 2026, the government’s objective is to finalize ongoing FTA negotiations with South Korea and the European Union. While talks with the EU are continuing without a set deadline, they remain a priority. Additionally, Thailand aims to complete the ASEAN-Canada cooperation agreement within the year, according to The Nation. This comprehensive and accelerated FTA strategy signals Thailand’s proactive stance in securing market access and strengthening its economic resilience in a volatile global trade environment.
