Vietnam’s seafood sector is experiencing strong export growth, with lobster and shrimp shipments seeing significant gains in key international markets. According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), lobster exports to China reached $70 million in January, accounting for nearly half of Vietnam’s total seafood export turnover to the country. Including exports to Hong Kong, the total seafood trade with China surged to $118 million, marking a 179% increase from the same period last year.

This growth is largely driven by high demand for fresh seafood, particularly lobsters, in China’s premium consumer segment during the Lunar New Year season.

Beyond China, shrimp exports to the European Union also saw a positive trend, rising by 15% to surpass $34 million in January. This expansion highlights Vietnam’s efforts to strengthen trade relationships and meet the increasing demand for high-quality seafood products in global markets.

To further enhance international trade resilience, industry experts recommend expanding market reach to the EU, Japan, and ASEAN, as well as focusing on high-end processed shrimp products to boost value-added exports.

Vietnam’s seafood industry continues to demonstrate strong global competitiveness, reinforcing its position as a key player in the international seafood trade.
