Positioned within the Banking, Finance, and Trade Finance council of the International Trade Council, Mandela brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the forefront of Uganda’s vibrant coffee sector.

With an MBA in Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda, Mandela’s educational background has been instrumental in founding and managing Stanfield Commodities Exchange Ltd. His journey into the coffee business was sparked by the global demand for healthier green/organic coffee products, leading to the establishment of a company that prides itself on processing and packaging high-quality graded green coffee beans.

One of Mandela’s significant contributions to the industry has been the successful manufacturing and marketing of Mandela Coffee, a line of ground arabica coffee that has attracted potential investors due to its quality and packaging. Setting up Stanfield Commodities Exchange Ltd stands as his most cherished professional accomplishment, fulfilling his dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur in Uganda.

The coffee industry in Uganda has evolved significantly, transitioning from selling unprocessed to value-added coffee products, reflecting consumers’ preferences for processed coffee. However, the sector faces challenges such as limited access to finance, modern processing equipment, and the high cost of labor. Despite these hurdles, Mandela envisions significant growth for the coffee industry in the next 5-10 years, driven by the increasing demand for various coffee products, including roasted coffee, soluble coffee, and coffee pods.

Excited by the integration of AI and data analytics in coffee trading, Mandela sees the potential for optimizing logistics, inventory management, and demand forecasting, which can streamline operations and meet customer demands efficiently. For those aspiring to enter the coffee business, he advises focusing on value addition and ensuring adequate working capital to meet the growing demand.

When faced with setbacks and challenges, Mandela seeks advice from experienced peers in the coffee business, demonstrating his commitment to continuous learning and improvement. He draws inspiration from industry leaders such as Volcafe and the National Union of Coffee Agribusinesses and Farm Enterprises (NUCAFE), reflecting his admiration for those who have made significant strides in coffee value addition and global trade.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mandela enjoys attending business networking events, watching television, and listening to music, which provide him with relaxation and inspiration outside his busy career.
