Scranton, IA (July 17, 2018) — New Way Trucks, a leader in garbage truck manufacturing, continues its long-term relationship with Recology with the development of Seattle, Washington’s first two electric refuse trucks. The BYD Motors 8R Class-8 battery-electric trucks, fitted with New Way Viper Rear Loader bodies, will also be the first electric refuse trucks in the larger Pacific Northwest region. They will be used for residential solid waste pick up.
While New Way has dealers and customers across the Pacific Northwest, this project with Recology and BYD allows the Scranton, Iowa-based company to bring sustainable, electric waste collection technology to the area for the first time. The Viper Rear Loader is designed for maximum efficiency and adaptability, and its innovative design and safety features has made it one of the most popular mid-compaction rear loader bodies on the market.
Recology, an employee-owned waste collection company that services communities across the West Coast, is committed to implementing sustainable resource recovery practices across the globe. These new electric refuse trucks will serve customers in the City of Seattle and allow the company to take a step forward in addressing the climate effects of heavy-duty trucks.
“We are excited to work with Recology and BYD to bring these innovative trucks to Seattle,” said Don Ross, New Way’s vice president of sales and marketing. “The combination of our efficient, streamlined Viper design with BYD’s zero-emissions battery-electric technology perfectly meets the demand for sustainable technology in the waste industry.”
The new electric trucks will be delivered to Recology in early 2019.
