Despite facing challenges in 2023, Moroccan berry exporters have seen a remarkable rebound in 2024. According to recent reports, fresh berry exports in the first three months of the year reached an impressive 66,000 tons—a nearly 20% increase over the previous year. This surge sets a promising tone for the entire export season.
Blueberry exports have been particularly noteworthy, shattering previous records by reaching almost 27,000 tons. Raspberry exports continued their upward trend, hitting 22,000 tons in 2024. Fresh blackberries also achieved a record, surpassing 900 tons. While strawberries didn't break records, they still saw growth, totaling 15,500 tons compared to the same period last year.
The European Union and the United Kingdom remained the primary destinations for Moroccan berries, accounting for 92% of the total share from January to March 2024. Notably, fresh berry shipments to the UK increased by a quarter compared to the same period in 2023, making it the top importer. Exports to the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and Italy also showed positive growth.
Additionally, fresh berry deliveries to Middle Eastern countries increased, and Morocco strengthened its positions in Norway, Switzerland, and Canada. The Indian market witnessed its first test shipment of fresh blueberries, indicating potential for further expansion.
