Kyrgyzstan has significantly expanded its trade with China in 2024, marked by a notable increase in banana imports. According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, Kyrgyzstan imported 7,500 tons of bananas from China between January and July 2024, reflecting a growing demand for this tropical fruit.
The total value of these banana imports reached $10.5 million, with the average price per kilogram standing at $1.4. This trade development underscores the strengthening economic ties between the two countries and highlights Kyrgyzstan’s increasing reliance on China for agricultural imports.
This surge in imports is particularly remarkable given that Kyrgyzstan did not import any bananas from China during the same period in 2023. The first shipments of Chinese bananas to Kyrgyzstan began only in October 2023, signaling a rapid expansion in trade activity within a relatively short time frame.
As Kyrgyzstan continues to diversify its import sources and enhance its trade relationships, the increase in banana imports from China serves as an example of the dynamic changes taking place in the region’s agricultural trade landscape.
