Interview with Vinay Maidargi of Chemovate

Q: How did you get started in this business?
I was originally employed in a Fortune 10 / multinational Information Technology Company, working on a supply chain, foreign trade project, tracking the line items imported by the company from across the world. The number of import transactions (Bill of Lading) done by the company set me thinking about the enormous business opportunity in the import / export business.

I then started to explore various opportunities in the sector, comparing data from various trade analysis websites, narrowing the fields down until I hit upon the resins and speciality chemicals sectors.

Q: Can you describe your customers / what type of customers do you have?
We are focused on the B2B segment, with our main customers being manufacturers of brake linings / brake pads, refractory products, printing inks, plywood/particleboard, foundries resin coated sand and commutators.

Q: What are some of your “keys to success” in building your customer base?
Ensuring that we act as a trustworthy partner in all of our business deals, with a particular emphasis on maintaining a strong focus on exceeding customer expectations and creating innovative solutions to meet their needs.

Our attention to detail, uncompromised quality, customer focus and high ethical standards help to distinguish us from the competition and ensure that our customers return.

Q: Is there anything about your business that you feel makes it special?
Having your own business is special as you get to meet people from different walks of life, from young CEOs to seasoned businessmen; getting to know their experience, their thought process etc is an exhilarating experience. You also get to travel to lot to places, so you to get to know different people and their cultures; in turn generating more business opportunities.

Q: Where do you see your business in the next year? In the next five years? In the next ten years?
Next year: Expand the business to Ethiopia.
Five year: Expand business across Asia and Africa, with the aim to be a 3 star export house
Ten Years: Expand business across the globe, with the aim to be a 5 star export house.
