Interview with Suresh Chitlangya at GSR Marketing

Q: Suresh, Can you please tell us a bit about yourself personally and professionally.

After completing my graduation from Osmania University, I stepped into service industry where it all started with sole proprietorship into Cement distribution in the year 1998. As the business grew, sole proprietorship turned to partnership firm and further got registered as public entity named  “GSR MARKETING LIMITED” which have operations spread over multi state, diversified in Cement, Logistics & Exports.

We are the first generation entrepreneurs , myself, my elder brother and my cousins, have founded     GSR Marketing Limited in the year 2007 and since then I am the Director of the firm having experience of 18 years till date in Cement, Logistics & Exports.

Q: Imagine that you met someone in an elevator and was asked to explain GSR Marketing in 30 seconds or less… Can you give us a 2 sentence ‘elevator pitch’ about your business and what you do?

GSR Marketing Ltd. Is one of the leading distributors and exporters of Cement with geographically diverse network. “GSR Marketing Ltd.– BUILD ANYWHERE … BUILD WITH US. “ . It is the only Company in India having such a vast operations spread over multi state dealing with multiple Cement manufacturers.

Q: How did you get started in this business?

In the year 1998, it all started as one man retail outlet named “GS Marketing”. From past 18 years this sole proprietorship (retailer) grew to partnership firm (wholesaler) and now it is ISO 9001:2008 certified company, known as “GSR MARKETING LIMITED.”

Q: Can you describe your customers / what type of customers does GSR Marketing have?

Our customer base include micro entrepreneurs to large scale Industries, Corporate Construction Companies , Govt. Contractors , Institutional Projects , Govt. Projects , Builder Associations are our major clients.


Q: What are some of your “keys to success” in building your customer base?

We followed our principles –  Integrity , Honoring Commitments , Transparency.  Today we could stand at this level , in only due to these above said factors.

Commitment – “If you commit, you have to deliver it.” Is the key principle to our business. We ensure that we provide timely delivery to the client throughout, thus justifying the price paid. Being honest with the customers from the initial transaction all the way to after sales stage have helped in building trust and winning the client.

Building Network / Relations – Money is the important aspect for every business but cannot buy the most major aspect required to flourish the business – Relations / Network. Network is to be built by self. There is no formulae for building relations. Keep meeting new people, exchange your thoughts / knowledge and this will ultimately make relations stronger and network bigger. “If real estate is all about location, location, location and then business is all about RELATION, RELATION, and RELATION…!”

Constant Communication – Only meeting people does not help. Relationships have a short shelf life. No matter how charming or enthusiastic one is, no one will remember us from a business card or a one-time meeting. One of the common mistakes people usually commit is that they come home from networking events and fail to follow up. Frequent communication have helped us in building strong relations with the customers.


Q: Is there anything about your business that you feel makes it special?

GSR Marketing Ltd. is a leading distributor and exporter of unmatched range of Clinkers, Fine and Concrete Cement. Logistics is the backbone for any distribution business. To provide even better and faster services we have started our own logistics arm PRITHVI GLOBAL LOGISTICS PVT. LTD. Which has reduced our dependency over logistics and has also helped us to deliver product within committed turnaround time. Further this have helped us to gain competitive advantage over competitors and reach new geographies.

Q: What kind of technology advances do you see that will likely affect this sector over the coming few years?

Use of belt conveyor to move the products from railway or any other mode of transport to the warehouse will reduce the labor cost.

Now as all the business are moving towards e-commerce, being in Cement and Export business , we are     planning to upgrade our business to e-commerce where people will order online through our website which will help us to expand our business overseas round the globe.

Q: Where do you see your business in the next year? In the next five years? In the next ten years?

By now our firm have been already established as a leading marketing company in the field of Cement and Logistics. We are now working on optimizing the logistics cost in Cement Industry. We are now further planning for expansion overseas. We have plans to setup our offices overseas at Dubai for catering African countries, and one at Singapore for Cement as well as export business. Gradually growing the operations in Logistics , Cement & Exports spread all over the world.
