Interview with Nina Suri of Nastrac Group

Q: Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself (personally and professionally)?

A: I studied to be an electronics engineer and after working a few years in the IT industry setup my company in 1997. I worked for companies like ICIM (an ICL company) and IIS Infotech (now Steria) but always wanted to be an entrepreneur and create things rather than follow a set routine at a job. I grew up in India but have lived and worked in 7 countries since the start of my company and consider myself a global citizen. Nastrac was started with $1000 investment and completely self funded. We now operate in all major countries including singapore, London, bournemouth , New York, San Francisco and Toronto.

Q: How did you get started in this business?

A: I felt I had more energy and initiative to ever be satisfied with what a corporate can offer me. Since I was a little girl I was clear that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I wanted to create a company and have the liberty to completely express myself through it and its services rather than follow a set job profile in a corporate. I wanted to do something which was very people oriented and having used recruiters to do hiring for my team when I was working previously, I realise there was a real potential and a gap that I could fill through my firm.

Q: Can you describe your customers / what type of customers do you have?

A: We have historically been working longest within the technology and hi tech firms, including it services, consulting, gaming, mobile applications, cloud security etc. In 2005 we  started our financial services practice to work with financial institutions and banks. We have recently started a new service line for diversity and inclusion hiring which works with companies looking to hire either diversity champions or their regular hiring with help in making sure diversity is key.

Q: What are some of your “keys to success” in building your customer base?

A: Our global footprint, our boutique mind set which helps clients get customisable and flexible solutions, our consultants are industry practitioners as opposed to pure recruiters hence able to provide very consultative solutions, our spirit of entrepreneurship which exudes passion and commitment in our services and our fanaticism for quality ( we are recipients of Singapore Quality Medallion)

Q: Is there anything about your business that you feel makes it special?

A: Our spirit of entrepreneurship says it all- our passion, commitment, our result orientation, fanaticism for quality all reflect a special approach to our clients. Additionally we invest hugely into automation and technologies of tomorrow in order to be able to provide more accurate as well as timely results to our clients

Q: Where do you see your business in the next year? In the next five years? In the next ten years?

A: We have a decent global footprint and hence now the next step is to grow each of the locations that we have setup and operate from. We recently launched our diversity services and the next service line will be analytics consulting.
