Interview with Hanne Selby of Homelife Glenayre Realty Chilliwack Ltd

Q: How did you get started in this business?
My parents and I ran a very successful restaurant business. When my father passed away my husband encouraged me to consider Real Estate as a career. He felt with my patience ,desire to help others was a perfect combination  to  make a good real estate agent. With two little ones 2 and 3 years old, I studied late at night , while the children slept, and wrote my exam. I never looked back, after that. This was one of the best  career decisions I have made, as I truly love my work. Most of my clients have become good friends, as we bonded during our business transactions.

Q: Can you describe your customers / what type of customers do you have?
I work with a wide range of clients. Seniors who are downsizing or moving to a home, first time buyers who need guidance as they make their first home purchase. With developers I have created they marketing packages , brochures, and much more, basically  from the ground up. Relocation of Armed Forces, large corporation employment placement, immigration from other countries looking to settle in Canada. Residential and Commercial sales. Commercial includes, buildings for sale, leases and businesses . I sell Real Estate from North Vancouver to the Fraser Valley and Hope B.C. Having lived in various ares of the Fraser Valley and Vancouver areas I have a strong sense of capturing the best locations for both business and personal home investment. I sell investment homes and buildings for those looking for holding properties.

Q: What are some of your “keys to success” in building your customer base?
I believe when working with a customer you need to make sure you give them enough knowledge to make a successful buying decision. I make sure if I see anything which might affect their current or future use of the property , that we discuss it and get enough information which will help in the decision making. 90{bfa08a400c7550404055ff04715e84c9172815d33c25eb3b84e230636ecdc007} of my business are repeat clients, past clients referring their family and friends to me. I also get referrals form there agents who have family looking. They all know I work for my clients best interest at all times. The key to my success I feel is that I am honest, patient and give exceptional service.

Q: Is there anything about your business that you feel makes it special?
Being a professional real estate agent gives an opportunity to meet people from all over the world and different backgrounds. I feel it allows me to help others with one of their most important and valuable investments. There is nothing like taking on a client and finding them the perfect property or doing a really good job selling one for them. I know I make a difference and have made many friends of my clients. Its a profession that allows us to use our negotiating skills for our clients benefit.

Q: Where do you see your business in the next year? In the next five years? In the next ten years?
The services that a professional offers a client is changing all the time. I see the services becoming more streamlined and the profession becoming completely paperless. Services will become more internet interactive with customers. At this time new technology has advance so a customer for example can use viewing glasses to walk through  a project that is not out of the ground yet, and see their future home, how it will look and feel as a finished product. These are the kids of things we will see the next 1-5- and 10 years advancing. With all the changes in technology, there will always still be a desire to meet face to face with my customers as this is when you get to know them , and they you. To serve my customers needs best I want to know what their goals are so I can help them meet these goals. You can never replace the person touch when reliving with one of the most important investments a person makes. They need to be “Handled with Care”
