Interview with Diane Douglas at Hopewiser Limited

Diane, Can you please tell us a bit about yourself personally and professionally.

Married with two grown up girls, I have a keen interest in Dance, the theatre and travelling and try to pursue my hobbies as much as possible in my spare time. I have worked in Marketing for the last 20 years, both agency and client side, and have been with Hopewiser for the last five years.

Imagine that you met someone in an elevator and was asked to explain Hopewiser Limited in 30 seconds or less… Can you give us a 2 sentence ‘elevator pitch’ about your business and what you do?

Hopewiser design and supply addressing software solutions from a fast download pay per click option to a full Address server which consolidates all your data into one place to create a single customer view.

How did you get started in this business?

The business started nearly 35 years ago with the Managing Director and founder recognising the advantages of using postcodes to generate a sorting and checking system for addresses. Hopewiser developed the first commercial available address management software package for Mainframes, which was based on the Royal Mail’s Postcode Address File (PAF) which contained 25 million addresses and which today holds over 28 million.

Can you describe your customers / what type of customers does Hopewiser Limited have?

We have the full spectrum across all vertical sectors from one-man bands using our web lookup software for e-commerce through to large Corporates using integrated software to validate and cleanse all their data.

What are some of your “keys to success” in building your customer base?

We were the first to develop Addressing solutions software. We continually work to improve, innovate and simplify our software for the very best user and most efficient experience. With the average technical staff tenure of over 9 years all our software is written in-house and is reliable, robust and scalable. Our customers regularly praise our support team for lightning speed service and problem solving capabilities. We often beat our competitors on price but also offer a guarantee to price match it.

Is there anything about your business that you feel makes it special?

We are a financially stable, privately owned company with a loyal and committed workforce. Our ethos is to remain reliable, ethical and professional in all areas of the business.

We have many clients in the UK, with some clients having engaged with us for over 30 years. We work in partnership with clients on a collaborative basis to identify and fully understand their specific data issues. In doing so, we are able to recommend solutions that achieve the set objectives and deliver genuine business benefits. We don’t make promises which we can’t fulfil.

What kind of technology advances do you see that will likely affect this sector over the coming few years?

We have developed mobile Apps and we feel that these and cloud based solutions will increase.  After the introduction of GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) in 2018, it will be more difficult to collect data so companies will have to be more vigilant and precise in how they handle their data.

Where do you see your business in the next year? In the next five years? In the next ten years?

Next year more or less the same.  I would not like to predict far into the future as technology is moving so fast. However, we at Hopewiser will always keep up with the latest technology developments.
