Q: How did you get started in this business?
After a few successful corporate executive chapters, like most members of our team, I wanted to create a boutique consulting firm that worked intimately with clients on the thorniest of challenges and to drive meaningful, positive change for their customers and their organizations. Aveus was started at the height of the dot com bubble (1999) when a common belief was “all the old business rules are out and new ones are needed.” That turned out not to be true, but what was true then and we still see today, is that companies need help navigating their way through really dramatically changing times.
Q: Can you describe your customers / what type of customers do you have?
From the beginning we declared that we would work globally, in large and small organizations, and across industries. For 18 years we’ve done that, working with a range of customers from F100 to small private companies and non-profits. We have done extensive work with healthcare plans, providers and integrated health systems, in manufacturing, medical device, technology, service organizations, several large non-profits and industry associations. Wherever there is a market, regulatory or customer driven change challenge, that’s where we work. As a change firm, we believe a key part of our value is to see across markets and innovations happening and to bring that breadth of experience to any client.
Q: What are some of your “keys to success” in building your customer base?
An early decision was to hire highly talented people who have deep experience and a track record of leading successful changes. When you do that, those people bring networks which has been our greatest source of customer development. Given the nature of our work, our relationships also most often extend to new assignments over time, which often introduce us to broader contacts in our client’s universe. We also participate selectively in organizations that we believe can connect us to the bold leaders that are seeking support for the changes they are leading.
Q: Is there anything about your business that you feel makes it special?
Yes! We often say two things: 1) We strive to be the consultants we wished we could have hired when we were on the other side of the desk. And 2) Our commitment is to leave your organization more capable than when we arrived. We regularly do evaluations with our clients who affirm that we are unique and set a high bar for ourselves and the work we deliver.
Q: Where do you see your business in the next year? In the next five years? In the next ten years?
We love the path we are on, doing interesting, complex work with bold leaders in organizations across the globe and across a variety of business challenges. We see ourselves doing exactly more of that.
