Q: How did you get started in this business?
Manufacturing of engineering components has been our family business since last 30+ years. We continued the legacy of our father not only by sustaining the business, but by adding customers, products over period of time. My father started with manufacturing of metal components. We extended this by adding rubber and metal bonded rubber components and moved up the supply chain. Today we supply to OE
Q: Can you describe your customers / what type of customers do you have?
Our primarily set of customers is in Auto and Rail industry. We supply to Indian Railways, State Transport Units, Government Nuclear Organizations (BARC) and after sales market in passenger car and heavy vehicles segment. Since we manufacture spares, other industries like textile, water pumps, electrical, Oil and Gas also form our customer base.
Most of our supply is across India and presently we export only to UAE after sales market.
Q: What are some of your “keys to success” in building your customer base?
Experience of manufacturing metal and rubber commodities, quality, pricing and timely delivery are some of the important areas that made us successful. Flexibility and customer service gives us competitive advantage over domestic and Chinese competitors.
Q: Is there anything about your business that you feel makes it special?
Good will and repeat orders from customers who are more than 20 years with us gives a special feeling. Our range of products with more than 1000 parts already developed is our asset. Today, we have 3 factories in and around Mumbai area. When we see this infrastructure, if definitely gives the feeling that this cannot be built overnight and needs years of hard work and commitment, what we already have put in and are prepared to put more.
Q: Where do you see your business in the next year? In the next five years? In the next ten years?
We are expanding in 2 areas, first – moving up the value chain and second increasing the territory. Our focus for next year is export. We are increasing our supplies to UAE and are keen to get some inroads into European market in the next year.
In next 5 years, our aim is to get into a JV with a tier 1 supplier to OEM who wants to establish a global sourcing center in India for likes of Volkswagon, Honda, Chevrolet etc.
In next 10 years, we look forward to be tier 1 suppliers to the world leaders in passenger car and heavy vehicles segment.
