Indonesia is poised to sign significant business agreements totaling $3.5 billion with various African countries as it hosts the second Indonesia-Africa Forum on the picturesque island of Bali. The forum, running from September 1 to 3, highlights Indonesia's strategic move to strengthen economic ties and open new export markets.
President Joko Widodo heralded the forum as a milestone in enhancing trade relations. "Our partnership with Africa has already led to substantial growth in trade volumes and agreements," Widodo remarked during his opening address.
Among the anticipated agreements are a groundbreaking geothermal project between Indonesia's Perusahaan Listrik Negara and Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO). Additionally, a promising collaboration is set between Indonesian pharmaceutical leader Bio Farma and Ghana's Atlantic Lifesciences Ltd.
In a proactive measure, Indonesian authorities have enhanced airport surveillance to ensure public health and safety during the forum, including addressing recent concerns about mpox. This commitment to health and trade reflects the positive spirit of the event, as reported by state news agency Antara.
