This remarkable figure marks a 10.1% increase year-on-year, further solidifying Huelva’s position as Spain’s foremost exporter of red fruits and making a vital contribution to the country’s trade growth.
With nearly 77% of Spain’s berry exports originating from Huelva, the province has established itself as a powerhouse in the agricultural export sector, far surpassing its nearest competitor, Valencia, which holds a 10.3% market share. This robust performance highlights Huelva’s role as a key driver in Spain’s overall export growth, accounting for an impressive 7.8% of the national increase of 11.6%.
The success of Huelva’s berry exports not only enhances the region’s economy but also supports Andalusia’s dominance in the Spanish market, where the region contributes a staggering 80% of total sales. Huelva’s berry sector has significantly boosted the trade surplus for Andalusia, contributing €1.029 million, with exports exceeding imports by a remarkable factor of 15.
Analyzing the product categories, strawberries lead the way with sales of €598 million, representing 54% of total berry sales and demonstrating a robust growth rate of 14.3%. Raspberries and blueberries are also thriving, generating revenues of €265 million and €164 million, respectively, showcasing the diverse opportunities available in the market.
Huelva’s berries have found a welcoming audience in 43 international markets, primarily throughout Europe. Notably, growth has been observed in 16 of the top 20 markets, with Germany emerging as the largest importer, followed closely by the United Kingdom and France. The continued expansion of Huelva’s berry exports into new markets highlights the province’s commitment to fostering global trade relationships.
In addition to its berry success, Huelva shines in the broader fruit export sector, ranking second in Spain for total fruit exports, only behind Valencia. This achievement encompasses a variety of fruits, such as cherries and certain stone fruits like apricots, underscoring Huelva’s integral role in Spain’s agricultural export landscape.
Huelva’s achievements in the berry export market not only reflect the province’s agricultural excellence but also its capacity to drive trade growth, reinforcing Spain’s position as a significant player in the global agricultural market.
