Thailand's exports are projected to increase by 1 to 2 percent this year, according to the Thai National Shippers' Council. This forecast remains consistent with earlier predictions.
In the first four months of this year, shipments have performed well, with production expected to recover in key trading partners, except for Japan and China, noted Chaichan Chareonsuk, chairman of the council, during a briefing. The weakening baht currency is also providing a boost to exports, the group added.
Exports, a crucial driver of the Thai economy, saw a significant rise of 6.8 percent in April compared to the same period last year, driven by increased demand for industrial goods and rice. From January to April, shipments increased by 1.4 percent year-on-year, contrasting with a 1 percent decline for the entire year of 2023.
These positive developments underscore the resilience and potential growth in Thailand's export sector, which remains a vital component of the nation's economic landscape.
