A significant diplomatic mission is underway as the Philippines seeks to boost tourism, trade, and defense cooperation with Brunei Darussalam and Singapore.
In Brunei, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on tourism cooperation is set to be signed, emphasizing tourism as a vital economic driver for the Philippines, providing employment to millions of Filipinos.
The MOU aims to attract Bruneian tourists to explore the Philippines. Additionally, discussions will cover key areas of cooperation, including security and investments. Meetings with Brunei's top business leaders are also planned to promote trade and investment opportunities.
The visit to Brunei aims to secure investments that will create jobs, alleviate poverty, and accelerate economic transformation in the Philippines.
Following the visit to Brunei, a keynote address will be delivered at the 21st International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. This event gathers leaders and defense ministers from around 40 countries.
The address will articulate the Philippines’ perspectives on defense and diplomacy, emphasizing a commitment to a rules-based international order and constructive multilateralism amidst current geopolitical challenges.
The visit to Singapore will continue high-level exchanges and maintain diplomatic relations established since 1969. An invitation will be extended to Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to visit the Philippines, highlighting the growing bonds between the two nations.
