Peru's avocado exports to the U.S. have reached new heights, showcasing a robust trade relationship and growing consumer preference for quality produce.
Since the start of avocado imports from Peru in 2006, the volume and value of shipments have skyrocketed. In 2023, Peru exported nearly 75,000 metric tons of avocados to the U.S., valued at over $145 million according to USDA data. Organic avocado imports from Peru also saw substantial growth, increasing from $429,000 in 2012 to $11.3 million in 2023.
The peak year for Peruvian avocado shipments to the U.S. was 2022, when imports totaled 122,000 metric tons valued at $270 million, highlighting the strong demand and reliability of Peruvian fruit in American markets.
This surge underscores Peru's pivotal role in meeting the increasing demand for avocados in the U.S., driven by consumer preferences for fresh, nutritious, and sustainably sourced produce.
As Peru continues to expand its avocado exports, it strengthens bilateral trade relations and contributes positively to both economies.
