Paraguay has witnessed a remarkable surge in export growth, with shipments in April alone reaching impressive figures. According to the Export Single Window Consortium (Convue), the first four months of 2024 saw exports totaling US$ 2,790 million, marking a substantial US$ 380 million year-on-year increase as reported by the Single Export Window System (DGVUE) under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
In April, Paraguay exported 1,226,617 tons of goods valued at US$ 774 million. Brazil emerged as the top destination with US$ 244 million, closely followed by Argentina with US$ 223 million, and Chile with US$ 95 million. Notable exports were also made to Peru, India, and the United States. Other buyers included Poland, Uruguay, Russia, and Taiwan, showcasing Paraguay's expanding reach in global markets.
Regionally, shipments to the Americas dominated, accounting for 1 million tons valued at US$ 643 million. Additionally, exports to Asia and Europe showed promising growth, with 93,362 tons shipped to Asia worth US$ 64 million, and 52,000 tons sent to Europe fetching around US$ 59 million. While exports to Africa and Oceania were relatively smaller, they signify Paraguay's efforts to diversify its export markets.
The Export Single Window (VUE) has played a pivotal role in facilitating Paraguay's export success. Established in 2013 through collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Convue ensures streamlined export processes, benefiting from the collective efforts of key industry stakeholders including the Paraguayan Chamber of Grain and Oilseed Exporters and Traders (Capeco), the Chamber of Exporters (Capex), and the Paraguayan Customs Brokers' Center (CDAP).
Looking ahead, Paraguayan authorities are exploring opportunities for infrastructure development, including a proposed new terminal at Asunción's Silvio Pettirossi International Airport. While plans are still under review, the project holds the potential to enhance Paraguay's connectivity and further bolster its export capabilities.
As Paraguay continues to make strides in the global export market, stakeholders remain committed to fostering sustainable growth and expanding trade opportunities for the nation.
