The China-Laos Railway has attained a significant milestone, handling approximately 1.38 million tons of import and export goods in the recent reporting period. This remarkable figure reflects a notable increase of 33.6 percent compared to the previous year, as disclosed by Kunming Customs on Thursday.
Since its inauguration, the diversity of import and export goods transported via the China-Laos Railway has expanded significantly. What began with 583 varieties during its initial month of operation has now surged to approximately 3,000 varieties, underscoring the railway's growing importance as a key trade conduit.
Over the years, the operational capacity of the railway has seen substantial improvement. Commencing with two trains per day, it has steadily escalated to an impressive 20 trains per day, demonstrating the increasing demand and efficiency of the transportation network, according to customs authorities.
As a pivotal symbol of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, the 1,035-kilometer China-Laos Railway seamlessly connects Kunming, the capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, with Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Since its inauguration in December 2021, the railway has played a crucial role in fostering trade and connectivity between the two nations.
