Cameroon's aluminum industry has achieved a notable milestone with a significant increase in aluminum exports to France, reflecting a robust growth in trade and revenue. In 2023, Cameroon exported 15,879 tonnes of aluminum to France, making it a top export product for the country.
France has become a major destination for Cameroonian aluminum, receiving 36 percent of the nation's aluminum exports and contributing 38.4 percent to its export revenue. Overall, Cameroon’s aluminum exports totaled 43,916 tonnes in 2023, generating an impressive CFA 54.2 billion in revenue.
Recent data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) reveals that exports of aluminium to France grew 2.5 times over the past two years. In 2021, the volume was 6,307.3 tonnes, yielding CFA7.5 billion. By 2022, this had risen to 10,308.8 tonnes, with revenues increasing to CFA 12.4 billion.
Domestically, a substantial portion of aluminum production is supplied to local industries, highlighting the sector's integral role in the national economy.
Looking forward, a new development promises to further enhance local market prospects. A recent agreement to build an aluminum processing complex in Douala-Bassa, expected to start in 2027, is set to generate CFA48 billion annually. This project is anticipated to boost financial stability and promote continued growth in the aluminum sector.
