Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized the importance of strengthening economic and trade ties between China and the United States during a meeting with a visiting US delegation, as reported by Chinese state radio on Wednesday.
Li emphasized that fostering economic and trade cooperation would benefit both nations, highlighting the mutually advantageous nature of such collaboration. He urged Washington to refrain from pursuing decoupling from China, emphasizing that such measures were not in the fundamental interests of either side.
Addressing the delegation led by Chamber of Commerce chief Suzanne Clark, Li reiterated China's openness to continued investment from US companies, emphasizing that barriers were not conducive to the fundamental interests of both nations.
Clark is leading a delegation of former US government officials to Beijing this week, marking a significant step in the gradual resumption of engagements between the two economic superpowers. This comes amid efforts to mend strained relations following tense disagreements over various issues, including the future of Taiwan, territorial disputes in the South China Sea, and trade policies.
Although relations between the US and China have experienced strains, notably highlighted by an incident involving an alleged Chinese spy balloon downed by the United States a year ago, efforts are underway to rebuild trust and foster constructive dialogue between the two nations.
