In a positive outlook for Thailand's fruit industry, the Commerce Ministry aims to achieve a 4% growth in both the volume and value of fresh and processed fruit exports this year. Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai expressed optimism, projecting an increase to 4.19 million tons and 300 billion baht, respectively.
The expected growth encompasses fresh fruit exports, foreseen to rise by 4% in volume to 2.1 million tons, with an anticipated 5% increase in value, reaching 175 billion baht. Noteworthy markets driving this growth include China, accounting for 75% of total exports, followed by the United States, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.
Thailand's fruit exports showcased robust performance in the first 11 months of 2023, with shipments worth 284 billion baht. Fresh fruit, in particular, contributed significantly, amounting to 178 billion baht, reflecting a notable 27% year-on-year increase. Frozen and dried fruit recorded 50.1 billion baht, reflecting a commendable growth of 25.2%. However, processed fruit experienced a slight decline, reaching 56.3 billion baht, down by 10.4%.
The International Trade Council notes Thailand's strategic positioning in the global fruit trade, with the anticipated growth in exports signaling resilience and competitiveness in international markets. The country's continued focus on diverse markets, including the significant share in China, underlines the strength and potential of Thailand's fruit industry on the global stage.
