In a strategic push to strengthen its position in global trade, Indonesia has formally requested to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). This significant step is set to open vast export opportunities and attract substantial investments, marking a new chapter in Indonesia’s economic growth.
Chief Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto announced the submission of Indonesia’s request to New Zealand, the official depositary of the trade pact. "This is a pivotal decision to reform our economy structurally and expand market access for Indonesian businesses," Minister Hartarto remarked, emphasizing the economic benefits this will bring to the country.
By joining the CPTPP, Indonesia aims to align with 12 member nations, including key economies like Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom. The agreement will provide Indonesia with greater access to international markets, offering its businesses a chance to thrive in a competitive global landscape.
President-elect Prabowo Subianto, set to take office on October 20, fully supports Indonesia’s bid to join the CPTPP, signaling the country’s strong commitment to advancing its role in global trade and boosting export potential.
