Vietnam's chili export sector is experiencing a significant boost, with exports to Taiwan (China) soaring by an impressive 640% in the first seven months of this year. The total chili export volume from Vietnam reached 8,023 tonnes during this period, marking a 3.5% increase compared to the same timeframe last year, according to the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA).
China remains the largest market for Vietnamese chilies, importing 6,834 tonnes, which accounts for 85.2% of the country's total chili exports. However, this figure represents a slight decrease of 1.9% year-on-year. The Lao market has emerged as a notable growth area, with exports rising by 44.6% to 810 tonnes. The United States also demonstrated strong demand, with exports increasing by 157.7% to 134 tonnes.
Noteworthy growth is also observed in other markets, including Senegal, where chili exports surged by 300%. Last year, Vietnam’s total chili exports reached $20 million, equivalent to 10,173 tonnes, reflecting a substantial 107% increase from the previous year.
This surge in export activity highlights Vietnam’s expanding footprint in the global chili market and its ability to tap into new and existing markets with increased demand for its products.
