In a significant achievement for Turkey's agricultural sector, the country exported fresh fruits and vegetables worth $284 million in May, marking a 14% increase compared to the same period last year. This milestone was announced by Ferhat Guruz, President of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association (AKIB), as reported by BazaarTime.
During May, Turkey successfully sold 354,282 tons of fresh produce in international markets. "Turkey's fresh produce exports reached $284 million in May, with our association contributing 43% to this performance, resulting in regional exports amounting to $122.4 million," stated Guruz.
The export sector experienced notable growth in several key markets, with Russia, Iraq, and Germany emerging as top destinations. "We achieved a remarkable 339% increase in the Iraqi market and a 126% increase in the German market. Significant growth was also recorded in Libya, the Czech Republic, and Georgia," Guruz highlighted.
Peaches were the top export product, generating $81.2 million in revenue, followed by cherries and sour cherries at $34.6 million, and tomatoes at $28.6 million. This robust performance underscores Turkey's expanding influence in the global fresh produce market.
