The recent international food trade exhibition in the Philippines has proven to be a resounding success, generating over $165 million in export sales, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The event, organized by the DTI’s export promotions arm, the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), took place from May 10 to 12 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. The initial and unofficial total export sales from IFEX Philippines surpassed the $165 million mark, exceeding last year’s total of $163.29 million.
With nearly 10,000 attendees, this year’s IFEX featured over 500 exhibitors and event partners from across the country. The exhibition attracted a diverse audience, including members of the diplomatic corps, government agencies, international and local trade buyers, retail customers, and media representatives.
CITEM’s Officer-in-Charge and Deputy Executive Director Ma. Lourdes Mediran highlighted the event’s significance in showcasing the Philippines' rich culinary heritage and export capabilities. "Our country has a rich tapestry of flavors that remain unknown to certain parts of the world," Mediran said.
Trade Undersecretary Ana Carolina Sanchez, representing Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual, emphasized the importance of events like IFEX in promoting inclusive growth and sustainable development. She noted the DTI's partnership with the Department of Agriculture and Clark International Airport Corp. for the Three-Year Food Logistic Action Agenda, which aims to establish secure food distribution routes and access points, ensuring affordable and reliable food sources nationwide.
DA Agribusiness and Marketing Service OIC and Director Junibert de Sagun praised IFEX for its role as a premier showcase for Philippine food. With over 42 regional exhibitors, IFEX continues to serve as a vital business-to-business platform, fostering trade relations and economic opportunities.
“As we continue to share our language of food with the world, we look forward to more fruitful partnerships for a prosperous Philippines,” de Sagun said.
