Peru has experienced a remarkable surge in fresh avocado exports during the first quarter of 2024, with figures soaring to 105,034 tons valued at US$ 233 million. This marks a substantial 35% increase in volume and a notable 46% rise in value compared to the same period last year. Additionally, the average price of Peruvian avocados in the international market stood at US$ 2.22 per kilo, reflecting an 8% increase from the previous year.
Throughout January to March, Peruvian avocados made their way into 29 international markets, with the Netherlands, Spain, and China emerging as the primary destinations. The Netherlands accounted for the largest share at 39%, followed by Spain at 22%, and China at 15%.
Exports to the Netherlands surged to 41,172 tons valued at US$ 92 million, representing a 35% increase in volume and a remarkable 48% rise in value. The average price per kilo stood at US$ 2.23, marking a 10% increase from the previous year.
Spain acquired 22,324 tons of Peruvian avocados worth US$ 52 million, reflecting a 34% increase in volume and a significant 43% rise in value. The average price per kilo reached US$ 2.34, marking a 7% increase.
In the Chinese market, Peruvian avocado exports totaled 14,458 tons valued at US$ 34 million, showcasing a 30% increase in volume and a notable 38% rise in value. With an average price of US$ 2.36 per kilo, which is one of the highest, there was a 6% increase compared to the previous year.
