Uzbekistan's agricultural sector has demonstrated remarkable growth in the first quarter of 2024, with a substantial increase in fruit and vegetable exports. According to the Uzbekistan State Statistics Agency, the country exported 375,300 tons of fruits and vegetables, amounting to an impressive revenue of $219.8 million during this period.
Compared to the same timeframe in 2023, these figures represent a significant uptick, with export volume soaring by 72.5% and monetary value increasing by 20.7%.
Notably, Pakistan emerged as the leading destination for Uzbekistan's produce, importing 79,100 tons valued at $57.6 million, constituting 26.2% of the total exports. Following closely were Russia, Kazakhstan, and China, with significant volumes and corresponding revenues.
An in-depth analysis reveals intriguing trends in specific produce categories. While grapes experienced a decline in value, cabbage saw a remarkable fourfold increase, reaching $22.2 million for 94,000 tons. Onions surged, growing 18.3 times to $25.9 million for 103,000 tons. Conversely, tomatoes and cucumbers witnessed declines in both volume and value.
Carrots, on the other hand, exhibited robust growth, recording a 76.9% increase and generating $7.2 million in revenue for 36,700 tons exported.
This surge in fruit and vegetable exports not only highlights Uzbekistan's growing presence in international trade but also underscores the country's potential to further capitalize on its agricultural resources.
