The World Trade Organization (WTO) has announced the opening of applications for the 2024 Advanced Course on the Economic Analysis of Trade Policy. Scheduled from 24th to 28th June 2024, this course aims to provide valuable skills and tools to policy analysts and researchers from developing economies and least-developed countries.
Government officials from WTO member countries and eligible observers are encouraged to apply for this technical assistance activity before the application deadline on 25th March 2024.
Designed to empower participants with practical expertise in analyzing trade policies, the course will facilitate interactions with experts in the field. It draws upon resources such as "A Practical Guide to Trade Policy Analysis" and "An Advanced Guide to Trade Policy Analysis," offering insights into economic analysis of non-tariff measures.
Participants can expect to delve into various data sources relevant to trade and trade policy analysis, learning methodologies including computing trade flows and policy indicators. Practical sessions utilizing Stata software will enable hands-on problem-solving, striking a balance between theoretical concepts and real-world applications.
Delivered in English by experts from the WTO Economic Research and Statistics Division, the course caters to government officials directly involved in economic or econometric analysis of trade policy, as well as those engaged in policy formulation and implementation. Additionally, researchers and academics specializing in trade-related topics are encouraged to apply.
Candidates are required to hold a master's degree or a PhD in economics or a related field, possess basic knowledge of econometric techniques, and be proficient in Stata software or similar programs. Previous completion of a WTO training activity or equivalent professional experience is also preferred. Fluency in English, both oral and written, is essential.
This initiative underscores the WTO's commitment to capacity-building and knowledge-sharing, fostering greater understanding and proficiency in trade policy analysis among participating nations.
